Bell and Telus Announce Network Change

In a highly anticipated move, Bell and Telus have announced that they are going to convert their entire network to HSPA and then to LTE.  This change will allow them to compete directly with Rogers/Fido as it will allow them to carry the 3G iPhone and to also carry all of the same devices that Rogers and the rest of the world use.

HSPA is the migration path of choice of all the GSM carriers.  GSM makes up about 80% of all coverage and usage in the world.  This leaves CDMA carriers in a hard place with the phone manufacturers as there is less of an impetus to support such a small market compared to GSM/HSPA.

LTE is the migration path for HSPA and is classified as 4G or fourth generation.
