The Death of a Drive :(
Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 7:30PM So for those that do not know me, I have a young son that is about 6 years old. I am also known for having way too much computer “stuff” all over the house. Well, the two things came together this past weekend…
I had left a 250 GB drive out where my son would see it and for whatever reason, he decided to fiddle with it. U to that point, he has never bothered any of the computer parts that are strewn about the house. Well, he dropped it. Much later in the evening, I went to use it (I am getting ready to build a DIY Windows Home Server). I was greeted to the horrible “Whirr, tick, tick, tick”. Bad news for me and also the first moment I really realized what had happened. I had noticed that it had been moved but never really though that it could have been dropped.
The silver lining was that I replaced it with a 500 GB SATA drive. A brand new Seagate 7200.12 series drive.
