The tale of Dying Drives and Free Space...

Well, my new Seagate 500 GB drive overheated and almost failed totally after only 8 days of use.  The RMA is under way but there is one thing that I have now truly realized is a big deal…

On a WHS box, you really need to try to have at all times, as much free space as the largest drive in your setup.  Otherwise, if you have to remove a failing drive from the storage pool, you will not be able to.  I know that it is not cheap to do it that way but it is the right way.  Fortunately, I did have enough space on my gaming PC to offload some of the data to guarantee enough room to remove the failing drive.

After removing the drive, I did some housekeeping and deleted content that was watched or that will likely not be watched for some time to come.
