My Oh My With The Hard Drives...
Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 8:21PM Doesn’t it just suck to be me…
After having to RMA a new 500 GB due to an iminent failure warning from S.M.A.R.T. (Which I am STILL waiting on!!!), the boot drive in my newly put together WHS box dies!!!
Yup, I went from generally happy WHS installation to BOOM just right out of the blue. I was able to move data around enough and delete some that I could just re-rip from DVD to free up a 250 GB drive to reinstall on. The drive died Sunday afternoon and last night was when I was totally finished putting everything back together.
On the upsides, the boot drive was only an 80 GB so very little data was lost. The other upside was that I got to see what all was involved with recovering a catastrophic failure of a Windows Home Server.

In a fit of curiosity, the 80 GB drive that died was a Seagate so I checked to see if it was still under warranty and it was!!! The RMA is on the way as I type. No idea what the size will be but I doubt they still have 80 GB drives in stock this far out from original manufacture. We will see...
