Another Ad and MORE hate from apple fans...
Sunday, April 12, 2009 at 4:56PM Ok, ok, if I give Apple dedicated one thing, they are pretty… The devices that is. Beyond that, there are a few issues that keep getting put out in criticism of these ads.
First, I have watched the latest commercial and it is kinda stupid, but I have to remind myself that it is not targeted at me. On the other hand, the 16” Vaio they grabbed is really nice. The best looking one at Future Shop (Closest BB equivalent to where I live) is the Vaio VGNFW275DW.
Specs:
- Core2Duo P8400 @ 2.26 GHz
- 4 GB DDR2
- 320 GB 5400 RPM drive
- BluRay Drive
- 1920 x 1080 screen resolution
- Intel GM45
- MS/SD card reader
You will not get a single argument from me on the stupidity of the graphics choice from Sony but given the price of the laptop ($1299.99 C$), it is quickly understood. However, one quick trip to Sony.ca and this can be rectified quickly…
Sony lists a VGN-FW390 that is customizable to match the specs of the 17” Mac Book Pro really closely. Doing this included downgrading the Vaio to not having a BluRay drive. The only other major difference is that the Vaio has only one graphics choice. A Radeon HD 3650 with 512 MB RAM. Total price? $1787.49 plus tax. That is more than $1200 less than the 17” Mac Book Pro!!!
And again, the Sony is actually pretty if to play to the Mac folk are so obsessed with the look of their devices.
So after that….
I was listening to the latest Engadget podcast and they were whining about the class war that these new ads are supposedly causing. Well get over it, Apple has been a class thing for a LONG time. They cost WAY too much money and therefore are ONLY bought by rich people or by those that are obsessed with fashion. A VERY tiny slice buy them because of NEEDING to use them for things that are ONLY on Mac (Final Cut).
Everything about apple is about class warfare. All their products are noticeably more expensive than any of their competition. Most of their products are based on nothing more than the same (Or very similar) guts in a different case. Further to that, most of these supposedly superior products are just as prone to glitches, crashes and flat out failure as anything else out there.
I have a friend who LOVES his Mac hardware but a couple years ago, right after getting a new Mac Book Pro, he had to reinstall the OS after only 3 weeks. It is this same friend that stayed clear of OSX for a while because of all of the issues with his video editing software not working on it (Sound like Vista???). Yes, he uses his Macs for a living.
My wife’s boss and his wife are in love with iPods. However, they also love to hate them too as they have had to replace them several times in the last few years as they pretty much die outside of warranty every time. To that, the latest Gen 5 they had die, they gave to me to see if I could coax it back to life.
Talk about an eye opening experience that was!!!
So I have this dead iPod (That I have talked about in the past) and I start doing research on it and man, are there a LOT of people that have dead iPods. And not just the ones with hard drives! All of them! Those foolish things die like may flies!!!
So, fine, Apple people that are Jobian followers, live in your reality distortion field all you want but understand that you are being herded like lemmings. There is nothing intrinsically better about Apple hardware than anything out there, except the feeling in your far emptier wallet than those that chose NOT to buy Apple.
