SageTV HD300 Makes a Wonderful HTPC replacement

So after a bit more than 3 years on SageTV for my TV watching and video content management, I finally ordered and now received an actual hardware extender from Sage for Sage.  There are many very favorable reviews out there already on the HD300 so I am not going to go a full rundown.

Netflix in Canada

Well, it was a long time coming but Netflix is finally in Canada.  There was a similar option called Zip.ca but they did not do streaming content.  Netflix is going the other way about it and is only streaming and not renting discs.  I know this posting is going up a little after they have launched but I have actually been able to use it and so has my wife and son so I have a more realistic feeling about it all

SageTV Launches new HD Extender...

It has been a long while since I chimed off in here but this time it is a great subject!!!

SageTV has just launched a new HD extender for their sectacular new version of SageTV.  Sage has had SageTV Version 7 out in Beta for several months now and it is coming along quite nice.  This somewhat unexpected arrival to the party of the new HD300 extender is just the icing on the cake.  It was always assumed that they would come out with another version but when was the question.  Makes sense to launch it at the same time they are polishing off the beta status of SageTV 7.

Sage vs. VMC and MCE

The gang at HTPCentric did a very interesting podcast Friday that pit 2 supporters vs. 2 in a comparison of Sage and the Microsoft MC solution from the last few years.  That being Media Center in Vista (VMC) and the original bolt-on in XP Media Center (MCE).  I have listened all the way through and it was a very good podcast except that there was a number of unexplored issues that came up.  I plan on commenting on some of them while they are fresh in my mind.

SageTV Demos Hulu

SageTV has now, at CES, demoed a beta implementation of Hulu from their HD extender.

This is big for a few reasons, the least of which is that it makes them the first commercial PVR software company to deliver this.

I will write some info on Hulu and why this is a really big deal this weekend.

SageTV Introduces New HD Extender

SageTV, the providor of quite possibly the best HTPC software and total home media solution has done it again.  A year after the release of their first HD extender, the HD100, Sage is now releasing the HD200.  The unit is smaller and supposedly faster than the HD100.  There are no real reviews out for it but Missing Remote has an unboxing that shows the physical difference between the two units.

Home Theater or wherever your TV is...

The concept as of the last 5 years has been that everyone needs a “Home Theater”.  A lot of this has been brought on by the amazing price drops in large flat screen TVs.  I have always been a TV and “Home Theater” junkie so I am fully addicted to all that it entails but I can tell you that there is no need to just toss money down because things are generally cheaper.  A lot of the real tricks to a nice TV or HT setup or experience is NOT spending more than you need as money wasted can frustrate your other half if you are married or can make you frustrated with how much you have spent and what little benefit you got.
